Shakti Studios, home to Bikram Yoga Liverpool, Yoga Bears and Aerial Yoga Liverpool has launched Evolve – a new movement series, drawing inspiration from different forms of yoga and meditation, performed in a state-of-the-art, heated, city centre studio. Practised to music, Evolve is a 60 minute class designed to help Liverpool’s growing number of yogis take their practice to a new level.
The aim of Shakti Studios is to provide yoga for everyone – young and old, experienced and beginner – under one roof. The dedicated studio based on Lace Street, close to Liverpool’s business district, offers children’s yoga, as well as a wide variety for adults, including sivananda, ashtanga and yin. Shakti’s hot studio space, with its own entrance around the corner on Great Crosshall Street, offers bikram yoga, bikram express classes and now Evolve.
Evolve is aimed at intermediate level yogis and is designed to be a natural progression for practitioners of bikram and other forms of hot yoga. Evolve is a grounding, enlightening movement sequence that uses yoga postures, sets them to music and incorporates principals of meditation, encouraging people to develop their physical body while relaxing their mind.
Estelle Cartlidge, creator of Shakti Studios and co-creator of Evolve said:
“We decided to remove all labels from this class and simply call it movement. It will be heavily yoga influenced because it is designed and lead by yoga teachers but we often get too hung up on labels. People ask ‘do you practice bikram or ashtanga?’ and ‘do you do yoga for fitness or to balance your mind?’ These questions inevitably lead to other ones like ‘does it work?’ and ‘are you good at it?’ With Evolve we have tried to create a 60 minute time slot where people feel liberated and free to develop at their own pace.Evolve will undoubtedly help you to develop a strong, more flexible body but its primary aim is to give people an hour of ‘me time’ and have them leave feeling happy and centred. Removing labels, and with them the pressure to do things in a way that could be perceived as right or wrong, helps us to focus on just enjoying ourselves, trying out new moves and having fun.”
Evolve is the latest creation of Estelle Cartlidge, who also brought Liverpool it’s first taste of bikram yoga, aerial yoga and Yoga Bears children yoga. Estelle’s co-creator in this new venture is Carliann Parry, studio manager at Shakti Studios, who also teaches across the city under the name Peace Love Yoga.
Carliann said:
“Our hot studio was built to house bikram yoga – a 90 minute hot yoga series, suitable for all levels, designed to transform the body and focus the mind – so we have a state-of-the-art heating system and a loyal, growing core of members. Evolve brings them an opportunity to learn new skills. It’s just 60 minutes long but fits a lot in. We have incorporated moves to strengthen, balance and detoxify the body.
“We hope that every time you step onto the mat to ‘Evolve’ it not only builds strength and flexibility but takes you on a journey one step closer to peace.”
